Halloween 2019 Countdown: Film in LGBT Horror History
The Lost Boys (1987) dir. Joel Schumacher
Directed by an openly gay man, many consider this film to be their introduction to queer cinema. Though initially drawn to the vampires by a woman, most of the seduction into the vampiric lifestyle of the lead Michael is done by the character of David. It’s David who offers him the blood and it’s David who seductively whispers Michael’s name throughout the film. Outside of the main chemistry between the two men other background details also have a homosexual undertone, most notably a pinup picture of Rob Lowe on Sam’s closet door.
