top 5 horror films?
this is mostly just 5 i really want to rewatch rn bc those are the ones i have on the brain. in no particular order
- saw: obsessed w the whole series even the crap ones but the og is fucking miles above the rest, its comparatively light on the gore that characterises the later sequels and heavy on the fun mystery element. gay rights <3
- the thing: ive only seen this once so far but i fell in love with it INSTANTLY. creates this great atmosphere of mistrust and uncertainty, amazing practical effects and kurt russell is STUPID sexy
- the ritual: call me a sucker but i love the horror trope where they wander off and get lost somewhere and this does it brilliantly. really cool creature design, the non-spooky plot part about the characters is genuinely good, and it made me go AHHH and pause it a couple times when i first saw it. only flaw is i wish it was a bit slower i think the cabin bit makes the action peak too quickly
- the vvitch: im a big fan of slow burn atmospheric horror where something is just off for the whole runtime and this is what kickstarted that in me. its so achingly slow and patient, the whole movie is like that quiet tense bit you get before a jumpscare. it has these long long shots of the forest they live next to where nothing happens at all but youre on edge the whole time. and a great portrayal of the family totally breaking down in the face of something they just dont understand
- possum: havent watched this in a hot minute but its a really striking film. its super quiet and character focused but the scenes possum is in are fucking horrible in the best way. everything in the movie is covered in a thick layer of grime you can feel through the screen, its fucking disgusting, i love it. long overdue a rewatch
honorary #6 is jaws bc i dont really think it counts as a horror film but i do love it passionately. an absolutely perfect movie
