the moment she chose to leave & to break her silence was when she had that dc contract in hand. she had a public place to go (hotels, table reads, on-set), surrounded by other public figures who knew her and at worst whose reputations could help protect her if anything happened in their presence, by the time she successfully filed a restraining order, so she wouldn’t end up homeless or chased out of auditions if he knew where she’d be & he showed up first. she had a promise of stable money coming in. and she donated her full divorce settlement to charity. there is no up-side at that point to leaving depp except for the very real benefit of being free to leave depp.

even the people who feel like she married him for money, then gone girled him— what was the benefit of staying? it’s been a long time since he was a rising star, and as the years have gone on and alcohol & age have been unkind to him, he’s been more of a falling anvil. for decades he’s had a reputation of angry outbursts, violence, abusiveness towards people he considers “beneath” him, and all the other charming, destructive qualities of unchecked addiction from angry drunks WITHOUT yesmen & a hollywood ego. he has a history of grooming underage & very young women as romantic partners. he’s a serial predator. he did nothing for her career & offered no material benefit that I or anyone else can see or cite— I don’t even really recall seeing her at too many of his red carpet events or accompanying him to hollywood parties.

unless she planned on being an extremely underpaid sugar baby hosting a drunk tank, even without any abuse there would be no “profitable” reason to choose depp & stay with him over dozens or hundreds of other rich white men with wino breath who wouldn’t take her out in public UNLESS she actually gave a damn about him. there was no benefit to being charmed in & romanced by depp except for, again, eventually being free to leave.

it is bizarre that anyone thinks otherwise, but the people who do want to believe more in their own fairytale fantasies of depp, or have a social excuse to dunk on a woman or justify their own MRA/MGTOW/incel delusions, than they want to face the fact that an actor they idolized or wanted to fuck is a run of the mill nobody who has no sense of his own identity when people decide they’re tired of him before he can use them until he’s satisfied & abandon them first.
